CLARE HURLERS played a starring role in UL’s win over DCU in the Fitzgibbon Cup Final.

The match saw UL run out 0-23 to 1-15 winners over DCU as they claimed their third Fitzgibbon Cup in four years.

The UL panel features nine Clare hurlers including All-Ireland winner and sub-goalkeeper Cian Broderick. Recent Senior debutants Patrick Crotty (Scariff) and Seán Rynne (Inagh/Kilnamona) also featured in the matchday squad alongside Colm O’Meara of Clonlara. Keelan Hartigan (Scariff), Conner Hegarty (Inagh/Kilnamona) and Keith Smyth (Kilanena) were unused substitutes.

The Limerick college played with great intensity throughout the match and dominated much of the play in the game’s early stages. DCU were left scrambling as UL worked the ball quickly up the pitch in the first half as Clooney-Quin man John Conneally notched up an excellent early point. UL led 0-05 to 0-01 after nine minutes with a difference is physicality evident between the Limerick and Dublin teams.
