MOVING away from the bottom of Division 2 was identified by Clare’s ladies footballers as they recorded their first National League win of 2025.
An opening round draw against Donegal was followed by a heavy second round loss to Roscommon before Clare got their campaign up and running with a commanding 2-17 0-7 win over Westmeath in Athlone on Sunday.
Scorer of 0-7 on Sunday, Fidelma Marrinan admitted “it’s no secret that we wanted to put last week behind us and move on. That display was not a fair reflection of us. We had a lot to make up today. Westmeath are a fabulous team but we had a lot to prove and make up for and we did that”.
The West Clare Gaels star went on to say “there was a big breeze, it was about getting our scores up, our shot percentages in the last couple of games wasn’t good.”
Concluding she said, “Today it’s a good result to get away from the bottom of the table. The first day out we didn’t know how we were going to do. Last week put us back but today we have levelled ourselves and hopefully we can move forward from here on”.
