NEWMARKET CELTIC claimed a big three points in their first outing of the Maloney Hardware Premier Division against recently crowned League Cup champions, Bridge Utd.

Two goals from David McCarthy saw Celtic record a 2-0 win to start their season on a high note. They welcome Killarney Celtic to Newmarket-on-Fergus this weekend in the opening round of the FAI Junior Cup.

Shannon Town Utd put eight goals past Kilkishen Celtic as they eased to a 8-0 victory. Charlie Morrison hit the net on four occasion, Sean Aylmer scored twice with Colin Curran chipping on the act and an own goal compounded the misery for the East Clare side.

Shannon Olympic commenced life back in the top flight on a high note when overcoming Lifford FC 2-1, Tom Butler getting the winning penalty after Ryan McCloskey levelled matters on the fortieth minute, David Kennan having putting Lifford in front early on.

Avenue Utd A proved too strong for Ennis Dons as they had a 4-0 win in the opening round of the Munster Junior Cup while Tulla Utd had a 3-1 victory away to Kilrush Rangers in the first round of the provincial competition.
