STAGE ONE approval for the provision of forty new housing units in Tuam has been granted.
A 3.55 hectare greenfield site owned by Galway County Council at Sun Street has been given the green light by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage with stage one approval for the construction of forty housing units.
The scheme will comprise 2 four-bed, 18 three-bed, 5 two-bed and 15 one-bed housing units.
Cllr. Pete Roche (FG), newly appointed Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of Tuam commented, โOnce delivered, these new homes will provide a welcome boost for the growth and development of the town of Tuam. My colleagues and I look forward to working with the local authority to progress this scheme as quickly as possible to alleviate the pressure on the local housing waiting listโ.
Liam Conneally, Chief Executive of Galway County Council said, โThis greenfield site presents an ideal residential opportunity within the confines of the town. It offers existing water and power services as well as direct access onto Sun Street. We will shortly proceed to appointing a design team which also will be tasked with developing a masterplan for the overall siteโ.
Michael Owens, Director of Housing with Galway County Council said the proposed development is the latest in a series of local authority led housing schemes taking place across County Galway. โThe delivery of new homes on this greenfield site is in addition to recent announcements for 356 new build social homes delivered or planned for delivery under โHousing For Allโ in Tuam town. A total of 80 of these units are to be delivered between now and the end of this yearโ.
