Darren Malone shot an impressive 42 points to win the men’s singles competition played over the Bank holiday weekend at Dromoland Castle golf club.
He won on a countback from Frank Melody who also shot 42 points with Declan Burke in third place with 40 points followed by Cathal Nolan with 38 points. Killian Howard won the gross with 37 points.
In the ladies 18 hole stroke medal competition the winner was Niamh McDermott with 74 from Julie Fitzgerald with 75 and Dolores Fox with 77. Patricia Moroney won the gross.
Ennis Golf Club:
The ladies 18 hole competition at Ennis last week was won by Sinead O’Sullivan (48) with 45 points from Carmel Cummins (46) who returned a similar score. Bridie Hanrahn (21) was third with 43 points.
In the 9 hole competition the winner was Rose Sharkey (20) with 22 points from Mary Nagle (12) with 20 points with Mary McMahon (11) a point further back in third place.
Last week’s senior ladies competition was won by Therese Lillis, Gert Finn and Anne McMahon
East Clare Golf Club:
The ladies 18 hole stableford at East Clare on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Loretto O Donnell with 37 points and she had two to spare over Noreen Skehan with third spot filled by Marie Donnellan with 32 points.
The winners of the ladies Wednesday competition were Breda McCarthy, Pauline Nugent and Kay Grimes from Mary Collins, Mary Hogan and Breda O’Loghlin with third spot filled by Connie McKenna, Brid Gurnett and Mary Stritch.
In the recent men’s singles qualifier the winner was Kieran Kennedy (22) with 67 from Jason Horan (15) with 68 and Colm Hayes (19) with 69. The gross was won by Eoin McGill with 71.
Alex Norris won the long drive with Tom Larkin winning the nearest the pin competition.
Last week’s senor men’s competition was won by Danny Minogue, Jackie McHugh and Jim Willis.from Nick Obolewicz, Ger Lenihan and Kieran McNamara with third spot filled by Jonathan Walsh, Martin McHugh and Michael Heffernan.
The East Clare club’s fundraising classic continues until this Sunday, May 12 and tee times can be booked by telephoning 061-921322.
Kilrush Golf Club:
Tony Lock (15) with 42 points won the Pat Geaney 18 hole open singles at Kilrush at the weekend. In second place with 37 points was Sean Moran (20) followed by Andrew Egan (15) with 36 points and Brian Scanlan (11) who had a similar score. John McNeilis (18) with 21 points won the front nine while Joe Daly (13) with 35 points was the winner of the back nine.
Woodstock Golf Club:
Kieran Crosby (8) was the winner of the club singles at Woodstock at the weekend with 40 points. He won by two from Bryan Clune (20) while the gross was won by Sean Crowe (3) with 35 points. The category winners were Aidan Mulcahy (6) with 37 points, Vinny McInerney (18) with 37 points and Noel Crowe (19) with 36 points
In the fourball competition the winners were Ross Kenny (15) and Neilus Butler (16) with 46 points from Barry McNicholl (9) and Jarlath Fahy (18) with 44 points. Woodstock seniors defeated Dromoland 4-1 in the J. B. Carr competition at Dromoland last Friday and they will now play Shannon in the Clare area final. Meanwhile in the Woodstock seniors weekly outing the winners were Eugene Morrisroe, Gerdi Griffey and Matt Power with 43 points
There will be a club singles this weekend.
Lahinch Golf Club:
Lahinch will make the short journey to Spanish Point on this Saturday to take on their neighbours in the Jimmy Bruen competition from 3p.m.
In the Irish mixed foursomes Lahinch will travel to play Woodstock on Friday May 24 at 4.45p.m.
Sixmilebridge Golf Society:
Adam Merriman won the Sixmilebridge society outing at Woodstock last week. Adam won for the second outing in a row and had birdies on 10, 11 and 12 which helped him win by 3 shots.
David Purcell was second followed by Colin Murphy in third and Conor Murphy in fourth place The nines were won by Dave Watson and Ian Mulready.
Fanny O’Deas society
Potumna was the venue last weekend for the Fanny O’Dea’s golf society outing when members played for the president’s (Noel Haier) prize.
Victory went to Liam Hayes with 35 points and he won by two, on a countback from Niall Donegan with Declan Conway in third place followed by Brendie McMahon, also with 33 points, in fourth spot, Alan Jackson and Brian Kilker won the nines while the gross winner was Gerry Lernihan. Terence O’Shea won the long drive with the nearest the pin award going to Pat Delap.
The next outing will be on May 18 when members will play for the Paddy Carmody memorial prize at Kilrush.
Gort Golf Club:
Brian Monaghan (17) was the winner of the open 18 hole singles, sponsored by Ward and Burke, at Gort on Friday with a score of 38 points.
Quinn’s Pharmacy sponsored the 18 hole singles competition played on Saturday and Sunday when the winner wss Chris Fahy (21) with 45 points.
The category winners were P.J. McAllen (7) with 40 points, John Collins (17) with 38 points Noel Ruane (21) with 38 points while Paul Brennan (3) won the gross with 36 points.
In another 18 hole singles competition on Monday, Andy Turner (14) from Ennis was the winner with 42 points while Trevor Cummins (5) won the gross with 33 points.
