Margaret MacNamara (26.1) won the ladies 18 hole stableford competition at East Clare last week with 34 points. She won by two from Brid Hayes (18.5).

The winners of the ladies Wednesday competition were Breda McCarthy, Evelyn Skehan and Mary Fitzgerald from Mary Collins, Connie McKenna and Maureen Clune with third place filled by Margaret Lynch, Mary Jo Minogue and Pauline Nugent.

In the senior men’s competition, the winners were Brendan McGill and Kieran McNamara from Danny Minogue and Jackie McHugh with third spot filled by Jonathan Walsh and Michael Heffernan.

East Clare golf club is holding a club fundraising classic from May 6th to 12th (Monday to Sunday) and details can be had by telephoning 061 921322.

Lahinch Golf Club:

Lahinch Golf Club’s annual play in pink day raised in excess of €20,000 for Breast Cancer Research at University Hospital Galway.

Organised by 2023 Lady Captain, Valerie Shannon, and the ladies committee the event, despite being played in atrocious weather conditions would not be possible without the continued generous support of members, their guests and the local business community.

The inter-club season got underway last week with a number of fixtures taking place. The ladies Munster trophy team were first out of the blocks defeating East Clare golf club in a very tight and exciting match 3&2 to progress to the next round. The ladies Revive Action team also had a very competitive match against Woodstock but they lost on a score of 3.5/1.5.

Ennis Golf Club:

The senior ladies competition at Ennis last week was won by Mary McMahon, Phil Butler and Peig Cleary with 24.5. In second place were Margaret Flanagan, Maureen Moloney and Eileen Corry with 28.5.

Kilrush Golf Club:

Matthew Dillon (15) was the winner of the men’s singles at Kilrush on Sunday with 28 points. He was a point better than John McNeilis (12) with Martin P Brennan (14), also with 27 points in third spot. Patrick Coleman (9) was fourth with 26 points followed by David Abbott (9) with a similar score.

Woodstock Golf Club:

Tony Neville (15) was the winner of the club singles at Woodstock at the weekend with 45 points. He won by two from Sean Walsh (36) 43 points. Pat Keane (9) was third with 42 points followed by Barry McNamara (15) with a similar score.

The winners of the two-step competition were Kieran Quinn (14) and Pat O’Brien (15) with 64 points and they beat Cillian O’Donoghue (15) and Colin Reidy with a better back nine. There will be another club singles this weekend and there will also be a team of four Texas scramble

Dromoland Golf Club:

The winners of the men’s foursomes at Dromoland at the weekend were Fergus Cooney and Phil Alldritt with 39. They won on a countback from Brian Hickey and Paudie Dorgan while third spot was filled by Hugh O’Neill and Maurice Lynch with 35.

In the senior men’s competition on Thursday, Barry Walsh was the winner in category A from Jerry O’Gorman with Brendan Lennon in this spot. In category B John McDermott won from George O’Carroll with Kevin Kent in third spot.
Mairead Bergin won the ladies 18 hole stableford competition from Trish O’Brien.

The ladies 9 hole competition was won by Eimear Danaher with 21 points from Ann Nix with 20 and Sandra Moylan with 19

Gort Golf Club:

In the men’s singles at Gort at the weekend Ray Dolan (12) with 42 points was the winner. In category 1 Jack Losty (12) won with 41 points, Ed Purcell (18) won category 2 with 40 points and Chris Fahy (21) was the category 3 winner with 38 points. The gross was won by Kris Finnegan (2) with 38 points.
