Clare’s ladies footballers lost their unbeaten record in this season’s league when they were defeated by Down in their final group game on Sunday.

While they had already qualified for the league final, there was some disappointment over suffering this first defeat of the season.

It was a disappointing game in which Clare wasted some good scoring opportunities and they will agree that they will need to improve on this display if they are to bring home the league title

Down made the better start and when the half time whistle sounded the home side were three points clear, 0-8 to 1-2, Clare’s goal having come from Teresa Collins. The Burren Gaels player followed up on her performance a week earlier when she scored a hat trick of goals in the team’s win over Antrim.

Clare lined out without Chloe Moloney last week due to injury. On the day they availed of the opportunity to give game time to most of the match day panel

Attention now switches to the league final against Roscommon, a game that will take place on Saturday week, April 6 at St. Brendan’s Park in Birr at 4p.m.
