CLARE’s senior camogie side suffered their second successive defeat of the National League campaign losing out by ten points to Kilkenny.

Kilkenny: 1-19
Clare: 1-09
Venue: UPMC Nowlan Park, Kilkenny

John Carmody’s side started off the better in the Marble County with Feakle/Killanena forward Lorna McNamara producing two of the first three scores as they lead 0-2 to 0-1 after eight minutes.

Two minutes from here, Kilkenny struck for a goal through corner-forward Aoife Doyle, as the Cats took control for the remainder.

It wouldn’t be until the twentieth minute for Clare to reproduce a score through Lorna McNamara, with last year’s All-Ireland quarter-finalist’s scoring 1-7 without reply.

Traded scores between both sides ended the first half in UPMC Nowlan Park with Kilkenny leading 1-9 to 0-4.

The girls in Saffron & Blue once again began the restart on the upper hand with Kilmaley centre-forward Caoimhe Cahill earning a penalty for the Banner, where Lorna hit the net to leave five between the sides.

Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere’s side motored on from this point forward where they found themselves eight points clear with fifteen minutes to go, after producing two unanswered points on two occasions.

Clare would ultimately score their final point on the 51st minute through Lorna McNamara pointing her fifth free, whilst Kilkenny wrapped up proceedings with four points to conclude the game at 1-19 to 1-09 at UPMC Nowlan Park.

McNamara and Broadford’s Niamh Mulqueen played well for the Banner contributing 1-7 between them.
