CLARE sit top of the table following four rounds in the Lidl Ladies Football National League.ย
On Sunday last, Clare recorded their latest win, coming up trumps against Offaly in Cusack Park.
Beaten by Kildare in last yearโs league final, Clareโs focus is on โgetting resultsโ according to manager Wayne Freeman. โOnce we get our shooting boots going, we will start getting bigger scores. We are creating opportunities which is the most positive thing. We are working the ball to good areas and we are getting lots of shots off. Sometimes you just get those days when the shooting boots arenโt firing. Itโs still good to get the result and we finished the game really strong which is very positiveโ.
Wides continue to be high for Clare but Freeman admitted he would be more upset if Clare were not creating the chances.
He acknowledged the contribution made by the substitutes introduced during last Sundayโs outing. Itโs important to finish stronger and that has been evident in the four games to date. We have put a lot of work into fitness our conditioning is excellent. Our subs in the last few games have giving us great energy. We are delighted with the squad as a whole. We have used 23 players in the opening games. We are using our squad quite wellโ.
โItโs all about championship and we want to go back to Croke Park and thatโs our ambition. There is a trophy on the line and that is all we are concentrating on at the momentโ.
Freeman continued, โThe longer we can stay unbeaten, the better it is for us, it gives us a chance of being in all finals. Each game gives us something to fight forโ.
Defensively, Clare were stong the Kildare native maintained. โOur back six and it doesnโt matter what six we put out, they are always very strong. Siofra Nรญ Chonaill (full back) was immense today and Ciara (Hickey) came on in the second half and really shored it all upโ.
Ailish Considine marked her return to the Clare colours for the first time in six years when hitting 1-2 off the bench. โShe contributed 1-2 today and there is more to come from her, positive signs,โ the Clare manager said.
