FOG HAS once again forced the temporary closure of Shannon Airport.

For the second time this week, flights and services at Shannon have been disrupted due to fog. The weather coupled with ongoing maintenance works on the runway of the International Airport influenced the decision of management to close Shannon.

Flights from New York (EI110) and Boston (EI134) were diverted to Dublin Airport with Cork Airport accepting diversions from the planned arrivals from Girona (FR2072) and London Stansted (FR093).

Manchester (FR4795) and London Heathrow (AC6917) services to Shannon were both cancelled.

Numerous departing flights from Shannon were also cancelled including Ryanair’s Manchester (FR4794), Girona (FR2073), London Stansted (FR92) and Birmingham (FR3258).

Aer Lingus’ flight from Shannon to London Heathrow (EI380) was also cancelled.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Shannon Airport stated, “As a result of heavy fog, Shannon Airport is temporarily closed. We anticipate some disruption to our schedule this morning. Fog is expected to clear circa 10.00am. All passengers are advised to check with their airlines in advance of travelling to the airport”.
