A NOVEL PAIRING LIES ahead in the TUS Clare senior hurling championship final with Clonlara and Crusheen progressing to the big day.

Not alone is a repeat of what transpired to be the most controversial game of the championship thus far, Clonlara emerging victorious in their third round tie by nine points, with scoring difference emerging in the minutes afterwards as Crusheen’s saving grace to send them to the knockout stages, but it is also a repeat of the 2008 semi-final, a tie that took a replay to send Clonlara on their way, their second last game before winning the county title.

For the latest episode of The Water Break, Ross O’Donoghue is joined by Conor McNamara, Johnny Markham and Martin Conlon.

Johnny is a former coach of both Scariff and Crusheen, coaching of Scariff when they won promotion back to senior in 2020. The Shannon man has also lined out for his club, Wolfe Tones.

Martin is a three time Clare SHC winner with Sixmilebridge and holder of an All-Ireland club medal. He coached the Ogonelloe intermediate hurlers this year and has been involved with Sixmilebridge senior hurlers, O’Callaghans Mills plus Clare and Cork senior camogie sides.

Conor managed Scariff/Ogonnelloe to win the U21A title last year, a long-serving member of their senior side up until last season and a former Clare hurler.

On the CLÁR:

  • Crusheen stopping the supply
  • Crowding the middle third works again for Crusheen
  • Did Scariff have a Plan B
  • Scariff’s reliance on Mark Rodgers
  • Clonlara played the game on their terms
  • Scoring ability of Clonlara puts them a level above versus potshots from Feakle
  • Feakle didn’t play to their strengths
  • Focusing on key pillars of opposing sides
  • Sixmilebridge’s second string cause a shock.
  • Corofin building continues.
