SHANNON AIRPORT has been temporarily closed with heavy fog disrupting operations at the International Airport.

Late on Sunday night, Shannon Airport was forced to close due to heavy fog. It has continued to impact on flights into Monday morning.

Ryanair flights to Stansted, Liverpool and Edinburgh, Malta, Porto were all impacted as well as Aer Lingus services to London.

Two Aer Lingus services from New York and Boston due into Shannon earlier this morning were diverted to Dublin.

Several flights will also be delayed as a result of the fog.

A spokesperson for the Shannon Airport Group outlined, “Due to unexpected heavy fog conditions during a period of essential taxiway maintenance work, Shannon Airport remains temporarily closed. As a result, flights in and out of Shannon Airport may be cancelled or delayed this morning, Monday 9th Oct”.

Passengers travelling via Shannon Airport this Monday morning have been urged to check the status of their flights directly with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.
