Lisdoonvarna SEC (Sustainable Energy Community) will be holding a solar electric panel clinic this Wednesday (July 19th).

Guest speakers Christy Sinclair from Elements Energy and Kris Claes from Slieve Elva B&B will join the clinic which begins at 7pm on Wednesday the 19th of July 2023 in The Pavilion, Lisdoonvarna (V95 YW1C) and will feature an important Q&A following the guest presentations, which will be facilitated by Harrison Gardner of Common Knowledge.

This will be the second community-focussed event since the launch of the village Energy Master Plan in March and follows on from a well-attended and meaningful Stone Building Clinic in May.

Reducing energy costs, limiting carbon footprint and increasing use of renewable energy will be among the items discussed while the PV clinic will aim to share practical and topical information about installing solar panels to existing homes and share information about the grants available to local residents.

Christy Sinclair, who has been a climate activist since the 1980s, will represent his business, Elements Energy. He is a qualified and certified installer of all PV solar systems and will speak about the ins and outs of a PV system, demonstrate how a solar panel works, outline the components of a PV system and also discuss the likely costs and the anticipated paybacks following an installation. In addition, Christy will share important information on irradiation levels in Ireland, and how, despite the typical weather, PV systems remain highly effective in reducing home energy costs.

Kris Claes from Slieve Elva B&B, which was recently awarded with a prestigious Gold Certification in sustainability, and which has a 6kW SPV system with battery, will share his experience of having solar panels installed and how he has cut energy bills by an incredible 64.7%.

Harrison Gardner will facilitate the Q&A on the evening, where residents are welcome to ask questions, share their experiences and discuss practical advice regarding solar electricity panels.

Lorraine Power from CLDC, who is the Community Energy Mentor for County Clare, will also be available on the evening to provide essential information onaccessing available grants for the installation of a PV system.

Wednesday’s event is free and hopes to see local residents and contractors in attendance. For more information, email LisdoonSEC@gmail.com or see the Facebook page, Lisdoon SEC.
