CLOONEY/QUIN’S Sean Considine won a silver medal at the US National Championships in Minnesota.

Sean set up a GoFundMe page to raise the money to travel to the United States as he was keen to see the level of the standard of his counterparts in the US.

Fourteen year old Sean won a silver medal in the U17 section of the US National Championships, he competed in both this competition and the Men’s B division.

A bye in the first round of the Men’s B was followed with wins over opponents from Alaska and Conneticut before Sean lost the semi-final to the eventual winner from Alaska.

In the U17, he had three rounds with wins over Galway player Caleb Donnellan and an American player from New Mexico to get to the final. He lost out in the final 21-14, 21-17 to Ayden Brule from Tucson Arizona.

It is the latest success for Sean who won the All-Ireland U14 championship in March.

Tuamgraney’s Diarmaid Nash also attended the US Nationals and Senior Men’s International to defend the title he won in 2022. As defending champion he had a bye in the opening round and defeated Loren Collado of California and Vic Perez of Los Angeles before suffering defeat to Galway’s Martin Mulkerins who won the final.

In the current 60×30 season, Leah Minogue had an opening round win of the Ladies National Championships over Carragh Kennedy of Roscommon at the weekend 21-2 21-16. Leah will play in the All-Ireland Intermediate as a result of that win with quarter-finals listed for the weekend June 10/11.
