TIMEFRAMES for the delivery of social housing in Kilkee could be accelerated.

Director of Services within the Social Development Directorate of Clare County Council, Anne Haugh told this month’s meeting of the local authority that they have been issued with new regulations introducing accelerated measures to deliver housing.

She explained that one aspect of this “removes the format part eight process so this might impact in a positive way on timeframes”.

Ms Haugh was speaking in response to Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) who welcomed the appointment of a design team for the construction of 27 homes on the Doonbeg Road in Kilkee. “It is a big step forward on something I’ve been very interested in,” he stated.

Confirmation of the scheme’s approval from the Department of Housing was announced at the beginning of March. It currently has a targeted start of the final quarter of 2023 with the second quarter of 2025 listed as the estimated completion.

Meanwhile, a new wastewater treatment plant, pumping station and rising main are planned for Kilkee.

Senior officials in the Council confirmed that it is planned to continue the use of the existing sea outfall at Intrinsic Bay. Design of the treatment plant and pump station is ongoing with preparation of the planning application documents also continuing.
