BUNRATTY’S Kate Jones and Aibhlinn Cotter of Kilrush received starting jerseys for their country in the Bob Docherty Cup.

Kate and Evelyn was part of the Republic of Ireland’s U15 soccer team who competed in the annual Bob Docherty Cup in Glasgow this week. Jones became the first Bunratty Cratloe FC player to line out with their country.

Successive 1-1 draws against Scotland and England saw the Republic of Ireland relinquish their title ahead of their final game against Northern Ireland on Thursday.

A starting place in the Irish side was secured by Kate for the draw with England as the Irish girls produced a gutsy display, she was one of four changes to the first eleven made by manager Richard Berkeley. Aibhlinn had started in the drawn encounter with Scotland.

From the sports mad Jones family, Kate is the daughter of Cathal and Caitriona. Her older brother Matt formerly captained Clare’s Kennedy Cup side and is currently lining out with Treaty Utd. They are also active members of the Newmarket-on-Fergus hurling, camogie and ladies football club.

Currently lining out with Connolly Celtic, Aibhlinn started her career with Moneypoint AFC. On the ladies football front, she plays with Kilrush and is a student at Kilrush Community School.
