SWIFT ALTERATIONS by the local authority along the River Fergus Greenway have been commended.

Vegetation overgrowth was removed from the footpath of the Quin Rd connecting to the Fergus Greenway in a very quick fashion by Clare County Council staff.

This was acknowledged by Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) who had flagged the vegetation was “obstructing use of the footpath with pedestrians being required to move onto the road”. She described the walkway as “a fabulous amenity” proving most popular with residents of Ennis and surrounding areas. “There are small matters but it is amazing how quickly the officials respond”.

Previous requests for a kerb barrier by Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) and Cllr Mary Howard (FG) “to stop children shooting out onto the road” have not seen such a proactive response. Similar complaints are also emerging on the Kilrush Rd with the new pedestrian link from the Ashline social housing development, Cllr Flynn noted.

Acting senior executive engineer, Ian Chaplin said the connection point was being assessed. He said a further request from a wheelchair cycle user to drop the kerb at the location had also been received.
