GARDAÍ in Shannon uncovered drugs worth a combined €32,000 when searching two properties in the town on Friday.

Two houses in Shannon were searched by members from Shannon Garda Station and the Divisional Drugs Unit on Friday. A seizure of €20,000 worth of suspected Amphetamine and €11,000 worth of suspected Cocaine was made in one of the houses and €320 worth of suspected Cannabis Herb and €900 of suspected Cocaine were seized in the second house.

Two males in their late twenties were arrested and detained Shannon Garda Station and later released pending submission of an investigation file to the DPP.

Meanwhile, at 11pm on Saturday, Detective and uniformed Gardaí from Killaloe carried out a search of a premises in Killaloe. During the course of this search approximately €8,000 worth of suspected Cocaine and €200 worth of suspected Heroin were seized. A male in his mid-30’s was arrested and detained under the provisions of Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act and later released pending submission of investigation file to the office of the DPP.

Recently, detectives and uniformed Gardaí from Newmarket-on-Fergus and Shannon Garda Stations conducted a search under warrant at a house in the Newmarket-on-Fergus. During the course of this search €3,700 worth of suspected Cocaine was seized. A male in his late 20’s was arrested at the scene and detained at Shannon Garda Station. This male has since been released from custody and a file is now being prepared for submission to the DPP.

All these suspected controlled substances have been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Crime prevention officer, Tríona Brooks stated, “These seizures form part of Operation Tara which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs”.
