DOONBEG COMMUNITY HALL is gearing up to host the one-act drama festival next weekend.

A host of drama groups from across Clare and beyond are heading for Doonbeg for the festival which runs from Saturday (November 12th) to Monday (November 14th).

Corofin Drama Group and Doonbeg Drama Group will be joined by groups from Waterford, Wexford and Mayo in West Clare to entertain audiences with a selection of short plays.

Organised by the volunteer committee of the West Clare Drama Festival, the Doonbeg One-Act takes place each November and is now in its thirty fifth year.

Chairperson Andrew Killeen spoke of Doonbeg’s track record in the drama circuit. “It is great to have live performances back on the social calendar as the norm for rural communities. Doonbeg is well established as a very popular festival with groups and audiences alike. People are very much looking forward to the festival for some live entertainment. Drama allows you to immerse yourself in other times and places by groups bringing a piece of theatre to life on stage. We are delighted to welcome both the audiences and the groups to Doonbeg again this year”.

Nine different plays will be performed by different drama groups over three nights in both Open and Confined sections. The drama groups are competing as part of the amateur drama circuit with the aim of qualifying for the 2022 All-Ireland One-Act Finals in December to be held in Ballina, County Mayo.

This year’s adjudicator is Paddy Farrelly who is the Technical Manager at the Ramor Theatre Virginia and Townhall Theatre Cavan. He has been involved in theatre for over 20 years, qualifying for the confined finals on many occasions

Details are available on www.westclaredramafestival.com and admission price is €12 for Adults or €30 for all 3 nights and €6 for Children available on each night. Doors open at 7.15pm with Curtain Up at 8pm sharp.
