SHANNON AIRPORT has been confirmed as the latest addition to the network of global cargo airline, Cargolux.

On Thursday, the inaugural Cargolux Los Angeles-Seattle-Shannon-Luxembourg service took flight. The weekly, year-round service will route from Los-Angeles via Seattle. The flight will then depart Shannon for Cargoluxโ€™s hub in Luxembourg, from where it provides both a vast road trucking network across Continental Europe, and onward flights to destinations in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.

Executive Vice-President of Sales and Marketing with Cargolux, Domenico Ceci described Shannon as โ€œa thriving commercial gatewayโ€ and said, โ€œwe look forward to building our partnerships in the regionโ€. Shannonโ€™s introduction is viewed as an opportunity for Cargolux to meet growing customer demand and expand its presence in the British Isles and Ireland.

Cargolux has been operating ad hoc flights into Shannon for several years, the additional gateway in Europe offers commercial opportunities for overseas partners.

CEO of Shannon Group, Mary Considine believed the addition signalled โ€œanother vote of confidence in our airport facilities. With Cargoluxโ€™s worldwide network covering over 75 destinations on scheduled all-cargo flights, this service will provide a convenient new option for the region’s manufacturing sector exporting to the global marketplaceโ€.

Clare TD, Joe Carey (FG) said it represented a major boost for manufacturing businesses in the Mid-West region. He felt it marked โ€œanother milestoneโ€ for Shannonโ€™s post COVID recovery and โ€œeven more significantly, provides access to more than 75 destinations for local exportersโ€.

Deputy Carey added, “There is no reason why the new Cargolux service shouldn’t be the forerunner to Shannon’s evolution into an important European cargo hubโ€. He added, “The Luxembourg base provides both a vast road trucking network across Continental Europe, and onward flights to destinations in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americasโ€.
