A LAHINCH MAN has won Clare GAA’s prize giving away a house in Lahinch.
Clare GAA managed to raise over €1.1m through the fundraiser which received entries from eighteen different countries. Tickets were snapped in 31 of the 32 counties on the island of Ireland with no buyer from Co Derry.
Shane Curtin from Moymore in Lahinch was announced as the winner of the competition. He is now the owner of a new four bed property having spent for the price of €100. Chairman of Clare GAA, Kieran Keating said that the biggest buyers within Clare were located in Ennistymon and Lahinch with a high level of interest generated in the locality.
Other winners included Ronan O’Dea, Eugene Hogan, Odhran Madden, Margaret Daly and Catherine Melia.
RTÉ broadcaster, Marty Morrissey was MC for the draw which took place on Tuesday night at Cusack Park. Ladies footballer, Siofra Ní Chonaill and hurler Aidan McCarthy assisted with the draw.
Initial calculations estimate that Clare GAA has raised over €1.1m through the venture. “We spent a nice bit on advertising,” Keating admitted. A quarter of the tickets sold will go back to clubs. He expected Clare GAA to make a profit of between €500,000 to €600,000 with clubs earning an approximate €350,000 to €400,000.
Upgrading Caherlohan will be the main outcome from the expenditure, the Chairman has confirmed. “We have a deficiency in terms of facilities available,” he conceded. The Tulla based facility is intended to become playable all-year round and for more pitches to be equipped with floodlights as a result.
Officials in Clare GAA are already considering running a similar fundraiser next year with members of the committee eyeing up potential properties in Lahinch.
