CLARE DUO, Doireann Murphy and Peter Duggan are in the running for the respective player of the month awards for April.

Custodian on the Clare senior camogie team, Clarecastle’s Doireann has produced vital saves in both Munster and All-Ireland championship clashes with Tipperary in recent weeks while also keeping clean sheets in both encounters with the Premier County plus the Munster final defeat to Cork. The All-Ireland and world champion winning handballer has been enjoying her best form for the county senior side this season with Killaloe’s Brendan Foley acting as goalkeeper coach.

A two-time Ashbourne Cup winner with the University of Limerick, Doireann returned to the county senior panel last year during Ger O’Connell’s final campaign as manager. She made her adult inter-county debut in June 2015 outfield scoring 5-06 for the Clare Juniors in their All-Ireland championship opener against Meath.

She is shortlisted for the PwC GPA Camogie Player of the Month alongside Cork’s Katrina Mackey and Miriam Walsh of Kikenny.

Peter Duggan is in the running for the hurling equivalent off the back of an impressive start to the Munster SHC. The Clooney/Quin attacker has been a most welcome addition to Brian Lohan’s side appearing in the championship for the first time since 2019.

His workrate, scoring prowess and option for all types of supply of ball has made him an invaluable asset. The Spancilhill man previously claimed an All Star award in 2018, both he and Shane O’Donnell have added to the strength of Lohan’s forward line. Duggan to date in this year’s championship has scored 1-14 while in the Waterford win on Sunday, his two turnovers led to the creation of goals by David Reidy and David Fitzgerald.

Nominated with Duggan for the PwC GPA Player of the Month are Dublin’s Donal Burke and Peter’s former LIT teammate Diarmaid Byrnes of Limerick.
