IMPROVED SAFETY MEASURES on the approach to Parteen village have been sought.

Provision of public lighting “on the 50km stretch of road from Clancy’s Cross” to join up with the existing lights on the R464 approaching Parteen village were requested by Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF). He also appealed for driver feedback signs on the three approach roads to the South Clare village, on both sides of the R464 and the School Rd “as a matter of health of safety”.

Senior executive engineer in the roads and transportation section of Clare County Council, Anne O’Sullivan said the request would be examined, “a design and cost estimate will be prepared for consideration”.

Regarding driver feedback signs, senior executive engineer in the Shannon Municipal District, Tom Mellett outlined, “a traffic and speed survey of the road will be carried out to determine the most appropriate action”.

Cllr O’Gorman admitted he was “happy enough” with the response from the local authority officials. His proposal was seconded by Cllr Michael Begley (IND).

Meanwhile, Cllr John Crowe (FG)’s request for the road sweeper to clean the road from Clancy’s Cross to Larkin’s Cross “due to concerns over blocked shores on the stretch of road” was approved. Mellett said the MD would “arrange for the road sweeper to visit this area at the earliest opportunity”.
