MEASURES are to be undertaken to protect pedestrians on the road outside one of the busiest shops in South-East Clare.

Arrangements will be undertaken “to install appropriate measures to protect pedestrians” on the R471 at the Minister’s Cross on the border between Sixmilebridge and Newmarket-on-Fergus, senior executive engineer in the Shannon Municipal District, Tom Mellett confirmed.

Installation of marker bollards on the edge of the footpath outside Crowe’s Shop was requested by Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) who highlighted “the traffic comgin from Shannon don’t see the footpath”. The motion was seconded by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).

He continued, “It has happened that drivers have damaged their wheels from hitting off the footpath”. The Mayor of Clare noted that the situation could be much worse should contact be made with pedestrians.
