Avenue United have moved to within two points of title holders Newmarket Celtic A in the race for the Premier Division title.

The Ennis side recorded another win at the weekend when they accounted for Shannon Town. Newmarket Celtic A led the way with 30 points from eleven games while Avenue are on 28 points with a game in hand on Celtic.

Avenue United A kept up their strong challenge for league honours with this comfortable win over Shannon Town A on Sunday.

A Thomas Hehir goal helped the Ennis side to a 1-0 half time lead and they went on to add three in the second half through Mark Roche who scored from the penalty spot and a brace from Elias Kunz.

Spoils were shared when Sporting Ennistymon hosted Ennis Town on Sunday in Lahinch.

The home side raced into a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes, their goals coming from Jamesy McConigley and Nna Nneji.

Davy Keenan pulled one back for the visitors at the mid point of the half but Ennistymon struck again through McConigley following a corner by his brother Cathal and they led 3-1 at the interval.

Twenty minutes from the final whistle Robbie Gormley pulled one back for Ennis Town and three minutes later the sides were level after Joe Campbell found the net for the visitors.
