ROAD markings to highlight a concealed entrance to a Newmarket-on-Fergus primary school have been requested.
Installation of safety bollards and road markings at Stonehall National School โas identified by the Department of Transport for the safety of all,โ was sought by Cllr Pat McMahon (FF).
In response to his motion at a sitting of the Shannon Municipal District, senior executive engineer Tom Mellett noted that improvements โon each approach to the schoolโ were completed in 2021.
He confirmed, โwe have submitted the school for a low-cost safety scheme in 2022, should it be successful a design will be prepared to determine the most appropriate traffic calming measuresโ.
McMahon flagged that there a โvast amount of housesโ in close proximity to the school. โIt is a concealed entrance, markings on the road are to make other people aware of the school. Markings on the whole road to the entrance of the school is whatโs wantedโ.
As she voiced her support for the measures, Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) highlighted, โhere we are talking about safety around schoolsโ.
