AUTHOR Tony Griffin is to auction his precious All-Star award with proceeds going towards humanitarian supplies for Ukraine.

The Ballyea man retired from inter county hurling with Clare in 2009 and was awarded a coveted All-Star award in 2006 – having previously been nominated for the award in 2004 and 2005.

Griffin today spoke of feeling helpless about the crisis in Ukraine, which has inspired the former sharpshooter to auction his award to the highest bidder.

“If I didn’t have two young children, I’d travel and fight,” he wrote online. “I’ve decided to auction my hurling All-Star award with every cent of the proceeds going to the Irish Red Cross to fund humanitarian supplies.”

The author of the best-selling Teenager’s Book Of Life added, “It’s a personally precious award and took 13 years of dreaming and working to win … hopefully it can do something for others who need our help. DM me with an offer and the highest amount gets to own this iconic piece of Irish culture and help people who are going through a living nightmare.”
