A SUCCESSIVE defeat has the Clare ladies footballers under pressure heading into Sunday’s clash with Tipperary.
Postponed a week previously, Clare and Kerry finally crossed swords in Division 2 of the Lidl Ladies Football National League.
There was drama in the lead-up to the contest with Kerry boss, Declan Quill voicing of its postponement, once Shanahan McNamara Memorial Park in Doonbeg was unavailable, they booked the 4G pitch at the University of Limerick but Clare did not agree to this request. Seán Lenihan, Chairman of Clare LGFA felt the insinuations from Quill were not reflective of a proud footballing county like Kerry.
It was Kerry that did the talking on their field recording a 1-13 0-09 win on Sunday. Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh goaled inside ninety seconds and the visitors kept Evan Talty’s scoreless at half-time, the margin of 1-08 0-00 meant it was effectively game, set and match at this juncture. The boot of Chloe Moloney through placed balls allowed the hosts put some respectability on the final score.
Clare must Tipperary this weekend to starve off a relegation battle.
