Eighteen teams will compete in the Woodstock golf club’s Spring league this year with the first round scheduled for this weekend.
The big entry means that the top eight teams will qualify for the matchplay section of the competition.
The format for the opening round this week will be a team of four scramble while there will be a similar competition for those not involved in the league.

Meanwhile members interested in representing the club in this season’s Pierce Purcell competition should put their names on the sign up sheet in the men’s changing room. The closing date for entries is March 20 and the team will be managed by Cathal O’Neill, Paddy Meehan and Brian Kilker.
Kilrush Golf Club:
The very inclement weather conditions last week resulted in a smaller than usual entry for the Spring league singles at Kilrush where the winner was Noel Thornton (12) with 28 points.
Golfing in support of Clare football:
The annual team of four golf classic in aid of Clare football will take place on Friday April 29 at Woodstock. There will also be times available on Thursday April 28.
Because of Covid 19, this event did not take place in the last two years but it is returning this year and now that restrictions have been lifted another big turnout is expected.
A timesheet is in operation and teams can be booked through any of the organising committee which includes Colm Collins, Kevin Callinan, Ciaran Browne, Michael Clancy, Mary Keane, Niomh Madigan, Tommy Tubridy and Seamus Hayes or through any of the senior team management or senior panel.
Competitions cancelled:
Like many sports events, golf competitions in many clubs throughout the county were cancelled last weekend due to the inclement weather conditions. All are hopeful that the weather will improve and that courses will re-open ahead of this weekend’s scheduled fixtures.
