Seven new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Co Clare.
Data released by the Department of Health on Monday evening has revealed that Co Clare has seen its amount of COVID-19 cases increase by 7 to 398. It is the third highest amount of the counties recording a rise in confirmed cases, behind Kildate (15) and Laois (8).
Detail on the location of the new cases or whether they are related to last week’s cluster has not been confirmed by the Department of Health.
From Saturday’s county breakdown of cases which has been released today, there were no extra positive diagnoses in Clare.
Concerns have been expressed to The Clare Echo over the lack of social distancing in Kilkee, Doolin and The Burren across the August Bank Holiday weekend.
A total of 46 additional cases have been confirmed by the Department today leaving the national total at 26,208. Of the new cases, 85% are under the age of 45, 32 are associated with outbreaks or close contacts of a positive case. 5 are attributed to community transmission.
No new deaths have been reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre today. Since March, 1,763 people have died as a result of COVID-19.
There will be a meeting of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) on Tuesday. “The vast majority of young people in Ireland have followed public health advice and have made very significant sacrifices to protect themselves and others. People of all ages will occasionally slip up as they learn to live safely with this virus. We should not seek to attribute blame, but rather continue to encourage one another to build on and sustain the great efforts that we have all made to date,” Dr Ronan Glynn stated on Monday.
“We continue to urge everyone to observe the safe behaviours that we recommend such as physical distancing, washing hands regularly, wearing a face covering where appropriate, avoiding crowds and doing all we can to protect each other,” the Acting Chief Medical Officer added.
