A RURAL West Clare school is on a high following a double Munster footballing success.
Annagh National School (NS), located in Kilmurry Ibrickane and home to just 81 pupils, is celebrating an extraordinary run at the highest levels of primary school Gaelic football.
Following their coronation as Clare County Champions in May at the Cumann na mBunscoil Football Skills Competition in Zimmer Biomet Park, Ennis, three senior pupils advanced to represent the Banner County on the provincial stage.
On Wednesday, the trio of Séan Cummins, Oran Hehir, and Daithi Óg Canny traveled to the Munster Finals, where they secured a second-place finish overall, narrowly edged out for the top spot by neighbours Kerry.
While finishing as the second most skilful county in Munster is a massive milestone for the small school, the day also yielded an individual triumph.
Annagh NS pupil Séan Cummins made competition history by being officially named the most skilful player in Munster. Delivering a masterclass in core football attributes — including precision soloing, catching, and accurate kicking with both feet — Séan won the prestigious Top Scorer award. It is the highest individual honour of the tournament.
“This is a wonderful achievement for our school and county,” noted the proud teaching staff at Annagh NS.
