Keith Carr has stepped down as strength and conditioning coach to the Clare senior hurlers after one season in the role while the return of the Galvin brothers has been confirmed by Brian Lohan.

While doubts remain as to when the inter county GAA season will get underway players are busy following individual training programmes in preparation for the new season. The GAA is to provide an update on its plans for the season by the end of the month but it is expected that the February 27th start of the Allianz Leagues will be pushed back towards the end of March

Clare players are following a strength and conditioning programme under the guidance of Trevor Slattery and Mike Carmody who have replaced Keith Carr who was the team’s S&C coach last year.

Carr has stepped down from this role and is replaced by Slattery who is well known in Clare having worked with a number of hurling and football club sides including Cratloe and by Limerick native Carmody who has a background in athletics. Seán Treacy, James Moran and Ken Ralph are to continue as part of Brian Lohan’s management team.

Prior to getting involved with the Clare hurlers, Carr was S&C to the Galway senior footballers then managed by Kevin Walsh. Exact reasons that led to his exit are unknown.

Group training is not permitted at present under level 5 Covid restrictions but inter county players across the country in both hurling and football are following individual programmes.

In a week which saw four Clare players shortlisted for inclusion in the 2020 All stars hurling team, there is further good news for Banner county followers with confirmation from Lohan that Clonlara’s John Conlon, Colm and Ian Galvin are back in full training.

Conlon missed out on last season due to a cruciate knee injury while former All Sar Colm Galvin was also forced out of the panel due to injury.

Clare GAA has commenced an online initiative led by S&C coach Rob Mulcahy completed live sessions for primary (10am) and post-primary (4:15pm) school students focused on fundamental movement and physical activity. The thirty minute sessions run three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).
